“What if some of Argentina’s greatest musical works had in fact been composed by a woman… and a French one at that?”
This question lies at the heart of the programme. With Del Cerro, Mandy Lerouge offers a poetic and deeply moving response, through a journey across the vast Argentine landscapes in search of hidden treasures. “La Roja” explores a singular musical approach to the popular repertoire of this inherently hybrid country… and reveals one of its most beautiful secrets.
This programme is intimately connected to the great folk singer Atahualpa Yupanqui and his enigmatic composer Pablo del Cerro, whose true identity Mandy Lerouge brings to light: this little-known Argentine artist was in fact a French woman named Antoinette Pépin (1908–1990).
Mandy Lerouge then embarks on an extraordinary adventure: nearly four years of musical investigation between France and her adopted country. A meticulous and generous research process that leads her all the way to Antoinette Pépin’s personal archives in her village of Cerro Colorado, 900 kilometres from Buenos Aires.

MANDY LEROUGE
Although she grew up amidst the mountain scenery of the Hautes-Alpes, it was in the natural and cultural vastness of Argentina that Mandy Lerouge found herself. Mandy then threw herself heart and soul into the already deep-rooted tradition of this popular, creolised music, at the crossroads of Native American and European identities. She structured her activities with rigour and determination by founding Compagnie Le Fil Rouge in 2018, in order to produce her tours and two albums independently, driven by a community of fans and partners.
Artistically, she has won over leading figures in French and Argentine music: Chango Spasiuk, Raúl Barboza, Melingo, Lalo Zanelli, Minino Garay, André Manoukian, Vincent Segal, and more recently Nicolas Repac, Arthur H… Her new album ‘Del Cerro’ draws its inspiration from a physical and musical landscape, and its title stems from a revelation: nearly a hundred of the poet Yupanqui’s works are co-signed by a certain Pablo Del Cerro. A mysterious name for a composer as influential as he is discreet in the history of Argentine music… Mandy Lerouge then made a startling discovery: this Argentine composer is in fact a French composer… another child of cultural fusion: Antoinette Pépin (1908–1990)!
MANUEL GUERRERO
Born in Toulon to a Peruvian mother and a French father of Spanish descent, Manu Guerrero forges a unique link between contemporary jazz and the music of South America. Trained in classical piano and having made his name on the French chanson scene (Céline Dion, Michel Sardou, Patrick Fiori, M. Pokora…), he has been pursuing his own path in jazz since 2016. His album *Nuevo Mundo* (Jazz Family, 2018), recorded with Samy Thiebault, Minino Garay, Lukmil Pérez and Felipe Cabrera, explores the connections between Andean and Afro-Latin rhythms and the modernity of jazz. From France to Latin America, he shares his luminous, lyrical and rhythmic music, where the freedom of jazz meets South American fervour.
He has performed with Baptiste Herbin, Minino Garay, Manu Codjia, Magic Malik, Pierre Bertrand, Thomas Bramerie, Felipe Cabrera, Lukmil Pérez, Pierre Marcus, Orlando Poleo… In 2025, he collaborated with Baptiste Herbin and Minino Garay on the album Los Arregladores, blending contemporary jazz with Latin American influences.
