Charlotte Sohy: the recognition of a female composer

SATURDAY, JUNE 6TH 2026 - 15:00

A documentary directed by Matthias Weber.

Free admission, booking required.

At the Château du Buisson de May in Normandy lived an exceptional composer: Charlotte Sohy. Born in 1887, she lived through a century of upheaval — two wars, the 1929 crisis, the dawn of the modern age — without ever abandoning her calling. Yet, despite the richness and diversity of her work — symphonies, operas, chamber music, choral works and piano pieces — her name has disappeared from concert programmes and history books.

Produced by LuFilms, Charlotte Sohy – The Recognition of a Composer is a film about passing on knowledge and making amends, a powerful story of perseverance and sisterhood. It examines the exclusion of women from the history of music and celebrates the strength of those who are now giving a voice back to forgotten female composers.
